Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi has insisted he is unsure what the future holds for him when he was quizzed about a return to the Premier League, amid links to the Manchester United job. United appointed Michael Carrick as the interim head coach until the end of the season last week.

Carrick has seen his popularity increase having led United to a stunning 2-0 victory over Manchester City in the derby. However, Ineos are still hunting for a permanent replacement for Ruben Amorim, who was sacked following the 1-1 draw with Leeds at the beginning of the month.

De Zerbi is one of the names being linked to Old Trafford, having impressed at Brighton prior to his move to Marseille. The Seagulls' approach is one which has impressed Ineos previously and resulted in Sir Jim Ratcliffe hiring Dan Ashworth - albeit that appointment proved ill-fated.

After watching his side lose 3-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League, De Zerbi was asked by TNT Sports whether he would be interested in returning to the Premier League in the summer, should a big job be available. He replied: "I don’t know in this moment, I have to repeat in this moment, I am working in Marseille.

"I am very happy to stay here. I am working with passion and for the future, I don’t know." De Zerbi is just one of a few names to be mentioned among the candidates for the United job.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has been brought up recently, as has Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner. It is understood the Austrian would be interested in the vacancy at Old Trafford in the summer.

Last week, Glasner confirmed he would be leaving Palace at the end of the season when his contract expires. He later went on to criticise the Palace board for agreeing Marc Guehi's exit from Selhurst Park, the day before a game.

This led to crunch talks, where the decision was ultimately made to stick with Glasner. MEN Sport understands while Glasner has favoured a 3-4-2-1 formation at Selhurst Park, this would not play against him in the interview process.

Amorim favoured the 3-4-2-1 system at United and one of the reasons for his departure was his refusal to deviate from the tactic despite the results not being good enough.
