Owls in talks with Man Utd over fresh loan with recruitment explained

Premier League giants Manchester United are in discussions with Sheffield Wednesday over the possibility of a fresh loan option after Harry Amass’ immediate association with the club ceased.

The England youth international is believed to be on his way to Norwich City after his stint with Wednesday ended earlier this month. The Owls were hopeful of re-signing the 18-year-old, who made 21 Championship appearances for the club and claimed two player of the month awards.

Amid the likelihood of players leaving the club this month, Wednesday are hoping to strengthen their squad with loanees. After the arrivals of Murphy Cooper and Jaden Heskey, clarity on Amass’ fate has opened up a slot for the Owls to sign a replacement, with further loan deals possible and to be considered by the EFL on a case-by-case basis dependent on their financial viability.

The Star has reason to believe the club have been in discussions over the finer details of a possible loan move in recent days - though further details have so far been hard to come by. Manager Henrik Pedersen revealed that Wednesday remained in conversation with United over possible deals - it is not yet clear whether those talks may be linked.

The Owls boss said: “It’s mostly in this market we are searching, where clubs are trying to be helpful and friendly for us so they can help us and we can help with the development of their players... They (Manchester United) were very happy. We are in dialogue with them again to see what we can do in this window here.

“What we have right now is that because Harry is out, we can take a new one in instead of Harry. This is what we can do now - and then we can do the rest case-by-case... If we are selling one (player) then I suspect we can ask again and I suspect we can do this, but as long as there are no players sold, we have no cases.”

Pedersen outlined left wing-back as an area of immediate importance. Alongside Amass’ exit, youngster Yisa Alao is Chelsea-bound and Max Lowe is injured.

“We are speaking with different clubs to find a solution,” Pedersen continued. “Reece had a full game against Birmingham but he is the only left-sided player we have right now with Yisa and Max injured. So of course we have to look into this situation and bring in someone who can play on the left side.”
