Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has received plenty of support on social media from his teammates after announcing that he will leave the Reds this summer.

United confirmed on Thursday that the 33-year-old will depart Old Trafford when his contract expires in June. Casemiro arrived at M16 from Real Madrid in August 2022 for an initial £60illion plus £10m in add-ons.

The Brazilian helped United win the League Cup and secure a top-four finish in his first season. Under the then-Reds boss Erik ten Hag. He was then part of the squad that recorded a memorable FA Cup win over Manchester City in May 2024.

There have been previous calls for United to sell the ageing midfielder, with Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher infamously claiming in 2024 that "football has left" him. But the ex-Porto star has shone for much of this season - including in a man-of-the-match display during Saturday's impressive 2-0 win over City in the derby.

As news of his summer exit from United broke, Casemiro posted an emotional message on his Instagram account which showed a video of him at Old Trafford.

He said: "Knowing when stages come to an end. Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.

"Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil."

Casemiro's post has been liked by plenty of his teammates, including Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu. Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes has also liked the post, as has United fan and darts world champion Luke Litter.

The Brazil international reportedly plans to carry on playing after representing his nation at this summer's World Cup. There is reported interest from clubs in Major League Soccer, Saudi Arabia and his homeland.

United say supporters will have the opportunity to recognise Casemiro’s contributions at the final home game of the season against Nottingham Forest in May.

In the club's statement on his exit, Casemiro said: “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.

“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
