Casemiro proved both Jamie Carragher and Ruben Amorim wrong
The story of Casemiro at Manchester United has been long and complicated, with lots of high moments, but also some lows.

After becoming an instant hero in 2022/23, Casemiro declined in 2023/24 for United, which also lasted into the 2024/25 season.

In this time frame, Casemiro developed some critics who thought he was finished.
After one particular awful performance against Crystal Palace in May 2024, Jamie Carragher wrote Casemiro off, stating a famous quote about the Brazilian.
“I always remember the saying ‘leave the football before the football leaves you’. The football has left him. At this top level, he needs to call it a day at this level and move.”
Seven months later, after struggling early in the 2024/25 season, Ruben Amorim also expressed doubt over Casemiro, admitting he was his last choice midfielder at the time.
However, Casemiro turned it around under Amorim, being pivotal in the Europa League final journey, and this season in the Premier League he has been irreplaceable.
Amorim admitted Casemiro had become an example of hard work, fighting his way back into the plans, and he has since been key.
“He’s an example for everyone. In the beginning, he was behind every midfielder, even Toby (Collyer). But he fought, and he worked, and now he’s back in the national team.”
So while criticism at the time was fair and accurate, Casemiro has proven these doubters wrong, adding a season worth remembering to his career.

Casemiro is leaving Manchester United at the right time
Despite his age, Casemiro has looked in peak condition this season, and this has been proven in his performances, looking quicker and sharper than he has for years.
But despite that, it was the right time for the Brazilian to call it a day.
Casemiro has won fans over again this season, with renditions of his song sung throughout the Stretford End, and staying any longer would risk jeopardizing the relationship he has.
With such a massive wage, Casemiro and United were unlikely to ever come to an agreement on terms, given the likely gap.
So by announcing his exit, Casemiro has given himself the best possible send off and this should see his cult hero status exist forever.
