United confirm Casemiro exit:Manchester United have confirmed that Casemiro will leave the club at the end of his contract in the summer. The midfielder moved to Old Trafford in 2022 from Real Madrid, costing an initial £60m, which had scope to rise to £70m.
United contract extension decision:The decision for Casemiro to leave the club in the summer of 2026 comes despite the fact that there is a contract extension clause in his deal. The Old Trafford giants have seemingly decided against triggering that one-year extension, confirming the Brazilian's departure in five months.
Casemiro's first statement: In the initial United club statement, Casemiro shared his thoughts surrounding the move and his feelings on his time at Old Trafford. He said: "I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club. It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed."
Casemiro's second statement: The midfielder showed his class with another statement on social media shortly after the news broke. He said: "Knowing when stages come to an end. Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever. Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil."
Teammates respond:There was plenty of respect for Casemiro shown in his statement, on Instagram, drawing kind words from his teammates. Bruno Fernandes was among the first to respond when he said: "Was a pleasure playing alongside you." The likes of Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo and Diogo Dalot in turn responded with heart emojis.
Casemiro replacement: While the news has broken about Casemiro's upcoming departure, work is already seemingly underway for United to find a replacement. The likes of Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton - not to mention Elliot Anderson - have all been linked as possible options to come in.
