Ruben Amorim left Michael Carrick a gift at Man Utd in 'fantastic' star who could become world class - Opinion

Ruben Amorim didn’t do much right at Manchester United, but one of his mistakes has inadvertently given Michael Carrick a gift.

It has now been nearly three weeks since Ineos sacked Ruben Amorim, with a complete breakdown in the relationship between him and the club.

It then took over a week, but Michael Carrick was appointed as interim, at least, and the former Manchester United midfielder has had a dream start.

Carrick inspired a dominant win over City to kick off his reign, with 16 games left this season to stake his claim to be made permanent, it couldn’t have begun better.

In the derby win, Carrick had the entire team on top form, with one player continuing his incredible rise, which all began under Amorim.

Ruben Amorim accidentally created a star in Patrick Dorgu

Over the past few weeks, Patrick Dorgu has become an increasingly reliable wing option for United, coming out of nowhere as he previously looked hopeless in the final third.

Amorim even called out Dorgu, admitting that every time the Dane picked up the ball he had anxiety, which was incredibly harsh words for a young talent still finding his feet.

After these words, Dorgu could have shut down and lost confidence, instead they emboldened him.

Dorgu has knuckled down in training to improve his attacking play, which has now seen him become the club’s starting left winger with two goals and two assists in six games.

The number 13 shows passion and fight to win every ball and also runs relentlessly for the whole 90 minutes, quickly looking like he is among the best conditioned players in the league.

An example of Dorgu’s hard work is on Monday after scoring in the derby, he was doing private training sessions on his day off, the mentality of a champion, with Gareth Bale comparisons looking better by the day.

This leads us to the derby, when Carrick picked out ‘fantastic’ Dorgu for praise as his star continues to rise, and in a roundabout way, United have Amorim to thank as his harsh treatment actually inspired the 21-year-old.

Patrick Dorgu is tailor made for Manchester United and the Premier League

Dorgu’s improvements have been steady, with his offensive output getting better every game, as seen by his contributions but also his chances created and overall play.

However, going back the other way, Dorgu hasn’t skipped a beat, still dominating for United with his defensive qualities, including duels.

According to Statman Dave, Dorgu is the best duel winner in the league under the age of 21, winning an average of 6.83 ground duels per 90, showing that his adaption to the league is done.

With the strength and speed Dorgu has in his locker, he is a threat to every full-back in the league, with his limitations in crossing and shooting disappearing.

Dorgu was tipped to become world class, and United are now beginning to see why, he just needs to keep going.
