Michael Carrick's true feelings on Jadon Sancho speaks volumes as Man Utd decision set

With only the Premier League remaining as their focus, Carrick will assess some of the overlooked Red Devils currently out on loan. Sancho represents one such player, presently featuring for rivals Aston Villa. The Villans currently occupy third position in the league standings following an impressive opening half of the campaign.

The sidelined winger might secure a route back to Old Trafford via Carrick, who spoke positively about Sancho during his first temporary appointment in 2021. After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure, Carrick served as caretaker manager, achieving two victories and one draw from three matches.

Sancho found the net in Carrick's debut match as manager, a Champions League tie away to Villarreal, which United won 2-0.

The interim boss heaped praise on the young winger afterwards, declaring: "To finish it off, Jadon was brilliant. I know how much Jadon loves the ball at his feet and trying to make things happen, it's where he's happiest. But on the other side of the game, he put a real effort in defense and it was a big night for him.

"I was so pleased for Jadon. I thought he worked his socks off tonight, I thought he gave everything tonight.

"At times, it wasn't always with the ball, and I know how much he enjoys the ball at his feet and trying to make things happen. He showed a different side tonight and, to get his goal at the end, pretty much capped it off perfectly for him and for us."

These remarks showcase the potential Carrick recognised in Sancho back in 2021 and could suggest a possible renaissance for the winger at the club.

United might allow the 25-year-old to depart on a free transfer this summer when his deal runs out.

Nevertheless, Carrick's presence could prove instrumental in engineering a comeback for the overlooked player - or perhaps making him a more appealing prospect to prospective clubs.
