Report: Sunderland now willing to smash transfer record to sign Real Madrid "fireball"

Sunderland are now willing to make an offer worth more than £50m to sign a Real Madrid attacker, according to recent reports.

Le Bris insists Isidor "important" for Sunderland

It's been a quiet month for their recent standards, but there's still plenty of time for Sunderland to add to the arrival of Jocelin Ta Bi in the January transfer window. The winger opted for a move to Wearside over Scottish giants Celtic and that only highlights just how far the Black Cats have come in such a short time.

Their new position of strength should also help when it comes to outgoings. Sunderland are in no position to sanction frustrating exits, meaning that players such as Wilson Isidor will likely stay put this month.

Despite interest from Everton and others, Regis Le Bris insisted that the forward is an "important" player at the Stadium of Light, telling reporters: "For Wilson we have many conversations with him and his agent recently. He’s a really good player, important for us and did really well in the past and for sure in the future as well.

“We still have momentum and I think for Sunderland at the minute it’s positive to have Brian in good form and two strikers, Eli (Mayenda) and Wilson ready to go.

"It’s normal to have some difficult periods because they are still young, new in the league, so I don’t know if it’s possible to sustain the level for a whole season in this league, so it’s just normal to have different periods.”

Keeping players is one way to ensure that they keep their momentum, but Sunderland could also welcome further reinforcements this month.

Sunderland willing to launch shock Brahim Diaz offer

According to reports in Spain, Sunderland are now willing to launch an offer to sign Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid which would smash their transfer record.

The Black Cats are reportedly willing to table as much as €60m (£52m) to sign the Real Madrid attacker, who just had his heart shattered by his own Panenka attempt in the AFCON final with Morocco.

Despite that fatal dink, there is no denying Diaz's talent. He still won the Golden Boot at the tournament with five goals and he is still someone who'd make an immediate impact in Wearside.

He's been called 'very reliable' and 'strong'.

Dubbed a "fireball" by Real Madrid columnist Kiyan Sobhani in 2023, Diaz would making his first return to the Premier League since leaving Manchester City on a permanent basis in 2018 if he joins Sunderland.
