Michael Carrick revealed Casemiro is "desperate" to finish on a high at Manchester United after the midfielder confirmed he will leave the club at the end of this season. United confirmed the Brazilian will depart when his contract expires in the summer, with the announcement made on Thursday to provide clarity on his future.
That allows Casemiro time to assess his options over his next move, but Carrick insists his commitment cannot be questioned. Confirmation of his exit after four years at the club comes just days after he produced an outstanding performance in the Manchester derby.
Casemiro again showed his passion for the club with some jubilant celebrations in the Old Trafford victory against City and he is likely to keep his place in the side for the trip to Arsenal this weekend. Although United have only the Premier League to focus on for the remainder of the season, Casemiro can play a part in returning them to the Champions League and Carrick has held talks with him this week about leaving on a positive note.
"I think the announcement for Case was for clarity as much as anything, it was decided anyway before I arrived so it's not just a knee-jerk kind of decision," said the United head coach.
"The type of personality, the character that he is, I think it shows with his performance last week, where he is mentally and how much it means for him to be here and to finish this season strong. I've already had that conversation with him and he's desperate to do well and finish well. It's good to see, so I've got no doubt about him at all."
Harry Maguire is also out of contract at the end of this season and like Casemiro delivered an excellent display in the derby last weekend, returning to the starting XI after two months out with a thigh injury. His future isn't yet sealed and Carrick confirmed talks will be taking place over the next couple of months.
"I think that's just coming into that time of the season really with contracts. January is January in the window," he said. "Coming towards the end of the season in terms of contracts and decisions and that will obviously be taken and discussed in good time really, and at the right time."
Carrick did suggest he would offer his thoughts on Maguire's future, at least, with director of football Jason Wilcox set to take the lead on talks.
"I think the important thing for me is any decision I make or my staff make or the club make, it's not short-term, it's not just to get through to the end of the season," he said.
"I've got responsibility for whatever happens next to be in in a good place and moving forward to make the right decisions. So, as time goes on I'm sure I'll be part of it and we'll work our way through it."
