Hull City transfer latest: Ex-Blades loanee joins in Jakirovic boost

HULL CITY have completed the permanent signing of Rangers’ attacking midfielder Kieran Dowell on an 18-month deal.

Dowell’s arrival follows on from the addition of Bristol City winger Yu Hirakawa, with City also close to confirming moves for young Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer and former Middlesbrough defender Paddy McNair.

On his move, Dowell said: “I’m glad to be here. I’d known about it for a little while and was on the phone to Lunny (John Lundstram) straight away to get his thoughts and he couldn’t speak highly enough of the place.

"The club is doing great in the league and I know Jared (Dublin) from Sheffield United. I’ve always had a good relationship with him over the years, so I had a good feeling about it.”

Ormskirk-born Dowell, 28, who started his career at Everton, has spent a previous spell in Yorkshire at Sheffield United, whom he joined on loan in 2018-19.

Dowell has also spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Wigan Athletic and joined Norwich City after leaving Merseyside in a £1.5m deal in July 2020.

Dowell linked up with Rangers in July 2023, but has been on the periphery for most of his time at Ibrox.

The attacking midfielder initially impressed in spells during 2023-24, but a poor start to last season under Philippe Clement led to him being shipped out on loan to Birmingham City, whom he helped to win promotion to the Championship in the second half of 2024-25.

This season, Dowell has made just seven appearances for the Gers, with his long-term future at the club always looking unlikely, while being out of the plans of current head coach Danny Rohl.

Dowell's record against Hull is a head-turning one, having scored seven goals in matches versus the Tigers, including hat-tricks while in the colours of Forest and Wigan.
