Man United are reportedly considering making a move for a PL star who they wanted to sign in the summer.

They also managed to strengthen the goalkeeper position after Andre Onana left the club to join Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan. The Red Devils signed Senne Lammens from Belgian side Royal Antwerp, and he’s become the first-choice at Old Trafford.

Lammens has impressed so far, and despite being just 23, he has shown a level of maturity since coming into the Premier League for the first time. But, Man United could look to bring in more experience at the position.

Man United could reignite Martinez interest

The Red Devils considered signing Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez over Lammens in the summer, but they opted for the Belgian instead. It seems to have paid off, but there is still a chance that United could sign the Villa star as he future remains uncertain.

Recent reports have said that Inter Milan are plotting a move to sign Martinez this month, and it seems Man United are still keeping tabs on him. According to former Premier League scout Mick Brown, Martinez is ‘one to watch’ for United.

He told Football Insider: “Martinez will definitely be one to watch for Man United. Lammens has done well since coming in, I think he’s looked solid and reliable, but they could do with a real top-class goalkeeper in there.

“Martinez certainly fits that bill. I think he’s still one of the best in the world when he’s at the top of his game, and he would certainly be an improvement. If he’s available and the price isn’t too much for them to afford, I would be surprised if they didn’t make a move.”

Schmeichel praises Man United for Lammens decision

He said: “They’ve got this one right. He’s done well. It’s not easy being a Manchester United goalkeeper – especially at a time when the team isn’t playing well. There’s inconsistency in who’s available and who isn’t, young defenders who need support behind them and in front of them, and then, of course, you’re taking over from a goalkeeper who didn’t have the best press, where the story around him was never positive.

“Honestly, he’s handled it well for a young lad. He’s calm, composed, and he’s doing exactly what you want your goalkeeper to do. So yes, I’ve been really impressed with how he’s come into the team. And if he carries on like this, he looks like he’s going to be a very good signing.”
