Tottenham are planning to raid the Serie A market for defensive reinforcements.
It looks like the Tottenham Hotspur chiefs are planning to rebuild the defensive unit after watching Thomas Frank’s team concede goals at an alarming rate in the last couple of months.
This has been evidenced by the capture of highly-rated Brazilian left-back Souza from Santos on Thursday evening. Souza will be expected to challenge Destiny Udogie for a spot in Thomas Frank’s first XI. Last week, the Lilywhites suffered a big blow when veteran Ben Davies suffered a nasty injury against West Ham and was stretchered off the pitch. It was later confirmed that Davies will undergo surgery after fracturing his ankle.
To potentially replace Davies, who is out of contract at the end of the season, Tottenham have begun talks with Liverpool in an effort to sign left-back Andy Robertson. The Scotland skipper is out of contract at Liverpool in the summer, but Spurs want to bring Robertson to north London in this transfer window.
And after possibly getting a deal for Robertson over the line, Tottenham do not appear like stopping.

Tottenham ready to make a move for Napoli defender Alessandro Buongiorno
According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Tottenham are preparing an official move for Napoli defender Alessandro Buongiorno. The defender could be on his way out of Napoli before the transfer window closes, as he wants regular minutes, and Spurs are ready to offer him that. It is worth noting that, back in the summer of 2024, the highly-sought-after Buongiorno snubbed Juventus.
Napoli thought they were acquiring the services of one of the best centre-backs in Serie A when they signed Alessandro Buongiorno in a €40 million deal from Torino in 2024. However, things have not quite worked out for the 26-year-old, who has fallen down the pecking order in Naples under coach Antonio Conte.
The aforementioned report adds that Tottenham are prepared to launch a bid for Buongiorno amid speculation surrounding Radu Dragusin’s future.

Dragusin returned from an ACL injury a few weeks ago and is eager to play regularly at Tottenham. A guaranteed place for the Romanian is far from assured, prompting him to push for a move away from Spurs. AS Roma are pursuing Dragusin, who is valued at around €20m. Tottenham do not want any loans or obligations-to-buy transfers, but an immediate sale if it transpires in this transfer window.
Buongiorno would be more than an adequate replacement for Dragusin
Should Dragusin depart, Buongiorno would be a fantastic replacement. The 26-year-old has started 12 Serie A games this season, which, although is reasonable, he’s been in and out of the Napoli side under Conte. The Italian craves regular opportunities to unlock his true potential, and that doesn’t look like happening at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
Now, Tottenham are trying to take advantage of the centre-back’s situation in Naples. The club’s preparation of an official bid seemingly shows how highly they rate Buongiorno. However, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven the undisputed first-choice centre-backs under Frank, whether the ex-Torino star would receive more minutes in north London remains to be seen.
