Man United could appoint Thomas Tuchel as manager in the summer but who could the England boss bring with him?
Manchester United have decided to wait to appoint a permanent manager, not that Michael Carrick was announced as an interim boss.
The expectation, is that one of the managers who will be available after the World Cup could be targeted. It is a long list of names of managers who have experience of winning at club level too with several high profile bosses being considered. Carrick has a head start in that if he impresses, he could be rewarded, although it would be a surprise if a more experienced manager isn’t appointed.
Who Thomas Tuchel might want to sign for Man United
One of the favourites is Thomas Tuchel. A league title winner in both Germany and France, the former Chelsea boss also has has a Champions League and Club World Cup in his personal trophy haul. There is a reason why England turned to him in the hope that he could turn them from the bridesmaids into the bride. Having worked at Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea and England, he will have an extensive contacts list and players who, if he arrives in Manchester, he might want the recruitment team to target.
In terms of England players, there are several who United could do with. Some of whom have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford. With Casemiro leaving at the end of the season there is a hole in the middle of midfield that needs to be filled with a player who is capable of dictating the tempo and of protecting the defence. Elliot Anderson is a favourite of Tuchel who has almost built the midfield around the Nottingham Forest playmaker and has shown that he is more than capable of mixing it with the best at an elite level. The 23-year old could be at the heart of the Red Devils engine room for the next 10 years if he is signed.
Who else could Tuchel want to bring to United?
Another, and maybe a bit more left-field, is Ollie Watkins, who has been linked with United before. The 30-year old would add goals and composure to the forward line and a more rounded striker option to compete with Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo. Aston Villa’s issues with PSR are well reported and Jason Wilcox could secure the services of a player who could bring experience and leadership to a squad that needs stability. Watkins also has the sort of character needed to be a success in red.
Finally, a centre-half. Liverpool have struggled all season in the middle of their defence which makes the decision to sell Jarell Quansah all the more bizarre. Now flying for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, the 22-year old has as good a chance as any to start for England in the World Cup. He is also capable of covering at right-back. United need players who would start for the likes of Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool, Quansah would.
