“I’m very close to him”- Player asked about Newcastle star as transfer keeps building

Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu has admitted to his close relationship with Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali, as the Italians eye him in the summer.

Calciomercato cover comments from him today in an interview with Tuttosport. He was asked about the Newcastle midfielder.

Tonali has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus for months. The Italian side are looking to add an elite midfielder to their squad in the summer and have him at the top of their list.

Various reports have built on that in the past few months. The latest of those came this week. A report from Italy explained he could be offered a €7m transfer carrot to return to his homeland.

That came after reports that Tonali has been telling friends about his homesickness and a desire to return. He too, has hinted at a move for months as well.

Any deal will be an expensive one, with Juventus working and potentially building up for a summer assault. In the meantime, the rumours continue to swirl back in Italy.

That led Kalulu to being asked about the Newcastle midfielder. He refused to add to the speculation but admitted he’s close to his former teammate.

“Sandro is a friend, we won a Scudetto together, and I’m very close to him,” he said.

“He’s certainly a strong player, but we’re on two different teams now: I wish him the best, but today I’m happy with the teammates I play with. Then… we’ll see.”
