Manchester United have been notably quiet during the January transfer window, despite just over a week left to complete any deals. That's also regardless of the fact that the Reds have been linked to several potential signings this month.

Interim head coach Michael Carrick appears to have focused his efforts entirely on working with his existing squad, rather than searching for reinforcements, despite concerns in certain positions. Casemiro is set to depart at the end of the campaign, whiet an ageing backline featuring Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw has also raised questions.

Taking everything into account, The Manchester Evening News examines some of the latest players rumoured to be joining United, though moves are more likely to materialise in the summer rather than this month;

Elliot Anderson setback

While the Reds have been linked with Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson as an alternative to Carlos Baleba after failing to secure the £100million Brighton star last summer, the midfielder could instead be heading to Manchester City.

According to Goal.com, United have "conceded" Anderson prefers a move to the Etihad Stadium over Old Trafford. Forest are insistent that the 23-year-old will not depart this month, and are expected to seek approximately £100m to sanction his exit in the summer.

A report from the I, meanwhile, claims: "There's a growing belief Anderson would snub United for a move to rivals Manchester City." If accurate, this would represent another crushing disappointment for the Premier League giants, who lost out on Antoine Semenyo to their neighbours earlier this month.

Cole Palmer position

Liam Rosenior has insisted that Cole Palmer remains satisfied at Chelsea, despite suggestions that he has become "unsettled" in west London and was "considering" a return to Manchester. The head coach said: "I've had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems very happy to be here.

"He's a huge part in our long-term plans. And my job and the club's job is to get him into a situation where he can consistently perform to the level he wants to. There was frustration in the Brentford game. We need to look after him and that's why I didn't involve him in the last game."

The England international, 23, has been outstanding for the Blues following his 2023 switch from City to Stamford Bridge, netting 48 goals and providing 29 assists across 110 matches.

LA Galaxy pursuit

Casemiro confirmed earlier this week he will leave United this summer - upon his contract's expiration. While his footballing future beyond the coming months remains uncertain, reports suggest that LA Galaxy may attempt to secure his signature as a free agent.

Meanwhile, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Brazil have also been suggested as potential destinations for the 33-year-old midfielder. It follows Casemiro's announcement regarding his departure at the end of the campaign.

Writing on social media, he posted: "Knowing when stages come to an end. Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.

"Four months to give my all for this badge - and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil."
