Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reached out to Michael Carrick
Michael Carrick has confirmed that he and have spoken since he won the race to become the boss - with his ex-colleague offering his support whenever needed.
United were on the lookout for a head coach until the end of the season and it eventually came down to a straight fight between Carrick and Solskjaer. Carrick had worked under Solskjaer when he was the Red Devils boss and the Norwegian hasn't shied away from saying he'd love another crack.
It was Carrick who got the nod however, but there appears no ill feeling with Solskjaer happy to lend a helping hand should the new man at the helm need it.
The 44-year-old got off to the dream start as he downed 2-0 at Old Trafford last Saturday. His next assignment is even tougher with the Manchester outfit heading to leaders on Sunday afternoon - but Carrick will have Solskjaer firmly in his corner.
He said: "I spoke to him. I’m close (to him). We've been through a lot together, so he's been fully supportive, as you'd expect. He's some man and I respect him an awful lot. He wished us all the best and he was happy that we got the right result."

Solskjaer knows what it is like to hold the top job in Manchester - something Carrick will now do until the end of the season. The former England midfielder insists he knows he can turn to him for advice if and when he needs
He added: "You have conversations and I've got a lot of friends in places that I can pick on if I need to. I'm not one that bothers a lot of people, to be honest. But he's certainly there if ever I need him."
It is understood that Carrick got the nod from the United hierarchy after - to get the job until the end of the season. Solskjaer's reign ended poorly and several of the individuals he managed remain in the squad and had made it clear they lacked confidence in him.

Carrick has previously beaten the Gunners when he had a three-game spell as caretaker in the aftermath of Solskjaer's sacking in 2021, but doesn’t believe that will have any relevance at the Emirates as United continue their bid for football.
"Games from three or four years ago, it's done, it's in the past," he said. "So as much as the experience helps you in certain moments, I think it’s a totally different game. I think the confidence I'm taking into the game is what we've seen since I've been here, between me and my staff, in terms of the game itself, training and how the boys were gone about it."
