Tottenham and Manchester United alerted by La Liga-winning coach’s availability amid Frank’s…

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank continues to be under pressure due to a lack of results.

Thomas Frank was extremely delighted after Tottenham Hotspur eased to victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Spurs overcame Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with goals from Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke enough for a much-needed win. Thomas Frank was under severe pressure of the sack before the continental clash, with Tottenham crashing to an embarrassing last-gasp defeat to London rivals West Ham last weekend, which led to the fans chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at the gaffer.

Thus, the midweek win over Dortmund helped lift some of the growing pressure on the Dane‘s shoulders. However, that doesn’t mean the club are looking out for potential replacements in case they decide to part ways with the 52-year-old.

Tottenham and Manchester United have Xavi Hernandez in their managerial shortlist

According to Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, Tottenham and Manchester United are set to have Xavi Hernandez on their respective managerial shortlists if and when they each decide to look for a new boss.

Frank recently revealed he had lunch and open conversation with Spurs chiefs a few days on from that dismal West Ham defeat and did not feel he was about to be shown the door. Yet, he remains in all kinds of trouble following a terrible run of performances and results in the Premier League that currently sees Tottenham jostling in the bottom half of the table.

As for Manchester United, they recently appointed Michael Carrick as their new manager until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim’s axing and Darren Fletcher’s short interim spell in charge. So, INEOS are expected to wait for some time before moving on to a permanent new head coach.

Pete O’Rourke reveals Xavi Hernandez, the 2022/23 La Liga-winning coach, could be a managerial option for both Spurs and Man United, although he is not the frontrunner for either of the job.

“Yeah, look, he would be an interesting option for both Manchester United and Tottenham, obviously he has got a glittering CV from his time at Barcelona,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively revealed on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast.

“He obviously had a spell in charge at Barcelona where he did win the league, but he’s been out of work since the summer of 2024.

“I’m sure Xavi himself would be interested in the chance to maybe move to the Premier League and either join Manchester United or Tottenham.

“I’m not sure he’s probably so high up the list of both clubs. Obviously, we know United are looking for a permanent manager in the summer with Michael Carrick in interim charge at the minute.

“Thomas Frank, for now, is still in charge at Tottenham, and no decision has been made on what they’re going to do long-term.”

Xavi would be a top appointment for Tottenham

Securing Xavi’s signature could prove to be a turning point for Spurs as they look to build on last season’s Europa League success. The Spaniard has been out of management since he was sacked by Barcelona in May 2024 after two-and-a-half years in charge. He led Barcelona to the 2022-23 La Liga title and brought joy for the supporters with his possession-based, exciting attacking style of play and promoted academy talents.

Xavi remains one of the most promising young coaches in world football. At Tottenham, the Barca legend would have a great opportunity to polish his managerial skills and further develop his glowing CV. The 45-year-old’s tactical philosophy, ideas and brand of football align well with the north London outfit’s requirements, although the club bosses will need to back him wholeheartedly in the transfer market to make his project a grand success.

All in all, if Spurs decide to part ways with Frank, Tottenham must appoint Xavi as his successor.
