Man United are up against Chelsea and Tottenham in pursuit of this transfer target
Manchester United are ‘expected to step up’ their pursuit of transfer target Felix Nmecha when the summer transfer window opens, as they look to bolster their midfield ranks.
The Red Devils are planning a midfield restructure as they are set to have their current options stripped back significantly at the end of the season.
It has been confirmed that Casemiro will leave following the expiration of his contract in June. Rumours continue to surround Bruno Fernandes, while Kobbie Mainoo is also attracting attention from clubs including Napoli and Chelsea.
Man United to ‘step up’ transfer pursuit of Felix Nmecha
United are among the clubs currently being linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Nmecha. The midfielder has caught the eye of several Premier League sides, including Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, so a transfer tussle seems likely.
According to CaughtOffside’s Mark Brus, Man United and Chelsea have both shown a ‘clear interest’ in bringing Nmecha to England this year, while Spurs have been ‘tracking him for months’.
The Red Devils are ‘expected to step up their pursuit’ of Nmecha at the end of the season. A move this month seems highly unlikely, especially as the window is drawing to a close and Dortmund are keen on keeping the 25-year-old where he is.
Will Man United sign Felix Nmecha?
While United have been backed to ramp up their pursuit of Nmecha later this year, it appears they’ll have a tough battle on their hands.
The German international is viewed as a key part of Dortmund’s current set-up and his contract does not include a release clause, meaning the ball is firmly in the club’s court.
Another source told CaughtOffside: “The club’s board want to secure his long-term future, with his current deal running until 2028 and no release clause included. Dortmund are determined to keep him and are considering improved terms to fend off Premier League approaches.”
If United are serious about signing Nmecha, they will need to pay a decent amount, as Dortmund aren’t willing to sell for lower than €60-65 million (£52-56m). However, there is the promise that Nmecha has previously ‘hinted in past interviews’ that he would ‘welcome a move to England’ if the right opportunity presented itself.
Until then, his focus is on developing himself at Dortmund, and the club view him as a ‘long-term project’, rather than a quick-sale profit opportunity.
Nmecha has not missed a single Bundesliga game so far this season, starting 16 from a possible 19. He has contributed five goals and three assists in all competitions.
