Manchester United 20-man squad vs Arsenal confirmed with key selection boost

The early Man Utd team news as they face Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United have been handed a selection boost for their trip to face Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Carrick's side are back in action following their magnificent 2-0 derby win over Man City a week ago, and face another tough test against the league leaders. The new United head coach could name an unchanged team in North London, but will welcome a key player back to the first-team squad for the match at The Emirates.

Noussair Mazraoui was spotted with the rest of the first-team squad heading down to London on Saturday afternoon and will be available for selection. The 28-year-old was granted additional time off after he took part in the Africa Cup of Nations final last weekend, but returned to training at the end of the week and is expected to be named on the bench against Arsenal.

Manchester United squad vs Arsenal

Manchester United could be without just two senior stars when they face Arsenal in the Premier League later today. Noussair Mazraoui is back in the matchday squad after his recent international involvement, but Matthijs De Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee are both still absent due to injury.

The Arsenal match will be the 11th consecutive game De Ligt has missed, while Zirkzee was absent for the Manchester derby win and is expected to be sidelined for a couple of weeks. Shea Lacey is also available for selection again after suspension, but was not among those pictured at Stockport train station on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Michael Carrick confirmed there are no fresh injury concerns for the trip to face Arsenal this weekend. “I’m not going to tell you the team first off [laughs]," he told reporters. "No, everyone came through the game really well actually. I can’t tell you anything, apart from the obvious."

When asked for a further update on De Ligt, he added: "I think it was just a little bit slower than initially hoped but he’s certainly getting closer. Hopefully, the next couple of weeks, without putting an exact timeline on it, he’ll be back and it’ll be great to have him back."
