'Impressed' - Norwich City boss makes Harry Amass admission after signing former Sheffield…

Norwich City signed former Sheffield Wednesday loanee Harry Amass on Saturday.

Norwich City head coach Philippe Clement has admitted he was “impressed” by what he saw of Harry Amass during his time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday after adding him to his squad at Carrow Road.

Following the expiry of his loan at Hillsborough earlier this month, Amass, 18, finalised a switch to Norwich on Saturday, joining the Norfolk-based outfit on loan for the remainder of the season from Manchester United.

Amass impressed throughout his time with Wednesday, establishing himself as a shining light during what was a testing time for the club. The Owls made no secret of their desire to try and keep hold of him for the remainder of the season.

Following the end of his stint with Wednesday, the teenager, understandably, attracted a wealth of interest from Championship clubs. It has been claimed United were wary about sending Amass back to Hillsborough because of the threat of the Owls’ squad becoming weaker this month.

Norwich, at the beginning of the window, did not intend on signing a left-back, but were forced to react after losing Lucien Mahovo to an injury.

Having seen what Amass is capable of doing in the Championship, Clement, who will watch his side take on Coventry City at Carrow Road on Monday night, is delighted to have secured his signature for the remainder of the campaign.

Clement opens up on Amass capture

"First, it was not in our plans a few weeks ago to bring in a left full-back,” said Clement, as quoted by the Pink Un. “With Ben [Chrisene] and Lucien, we have two really promising talents for now and for the future. But because of the injury of Lucien, which will be longer term, we needed somebody in that position.

"The recruitment team was really fast in coming up with Harry's name. Some people from the staff knew him already from before. I watched some games, and I was directly impressed by what he did already at Sheffield Wednesday, so it would be a good fit in the way we want to play football.

"I think for him it's also a good step to come here. In a young, exciting team where we want to build from the back, and that's also important for the player that he is. So I think for both sides this can be a win-win situation.

"It's very positive that he can step into all the training sessions directly, that he played a lot of game minutes also, and he showed his physicality in those game minutes.

"Physically, he's ready to do the job for the team. You need to integrate yourself into a new team with a lot of new faces, and you need to adapt to everybody in the way the other players play, but I'm very positive about his first training.

"I heard also after the first training session that several players said, 'very interesting player'. That's the best way to come into a club."

Amass made 21 appearances during his time with Wednesday, scoring one goal.
