'I will not play the victim'... Man Utd star issues defiant response to questions over his own form

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has issued a defiant response after Michael Carrick was quizzed over his form.

In his pre-Arsenal press conference, Michael Carrick was asked about the form of defender Diogo Dalot.

Dalot was fortunate to escape a red card against City, yet Carrick insisted he was proud of how the right-back defended for 80 minutes while on a booking.

And despite Noussair Mazraoui being available for selection again after AFCON, Carrick stuck with Dalot in the line-up against Arsenal.

Dalot played all 90 minutes as United defeated Arsenal 3-2, with a collection of memorable strikes.

Diogo Dalot says he will keep fighting

Diogo Dalot completed 100 per cent of his passes against Arsenal. He did not see a lot of the ball, making 17 of 17 attempts.

Nonetheless he deserves credit for keeping it simple, and the Portugal international insists that he will always give everything he can.

Speaking to MUTV, he said: “You have to come to Carrington every single day trying to give your best to match the standards that the club should have. And then what we do on the pitch will be a consequence of what we do every day.

“Sometimes it might work, sometimes it might not work. But you can see that when everything is tuned in, when everybody has the same energy, when we all want the same thing, we can win it. And I really believe in that.”

Dalot added that as one of United’s longest-serving players, he feels a responsibility, and he will not feel sorry for himself if he is the one who is scrutinised.

He explained: “I always try to give that message to everybody. Being here for a long time gives me even more responsibility in these moments. And that’s the biggest thing for me.

“As long as I wear this shirt, I will not hide myself, I will not play the victim.

“We just have to come to the pitch, give everything for the club and all together we can have moments like this and hopefully we can start a very good run of games.”
