The latest Premier League news and rumours amid transfer updates from Chelsea, Manchester United, Sunderland and Manchester City.

Premier League clubs have the chance to bring in new signings before the end of the January transfer window. According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea and Manchester United ‘lead’ the race for Rennes striker Mohamed Kader Meite. The likes of Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have also been mentioned as suitors, whilst Al-Hilal are said to have made a £35million bid.

Meite, 18, is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He has risen into the first-team of his current club since joining them in 2022. The striker has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, chipping in with three goals and two assists.

The 3am Verdict: Chelsea and Manchester United could see Mohamed Kader Meite as someone to boost their attacking department. He is young, has potential and will only get better down the line. The attacker may initially struggle for game time though at both clubs due to his tender age and competition from other players.

Sunderland target Jonas Omlin deal

As per Sky Germany, Sunderland want to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Jonas Omlin. The Black Cats are in the market for some competition between the sticks for Robin Roefs. They have until the deadline on Monday 2nd February to sign some fresh faces.

Omlin has been on the books of Gladbach since they snapped him up back in 2023. He has since played 36 matches in all competitions and has mainly provided back-up for the Bundesliga outfit. The stopper has also had spells in the past at FC Luzern, FC Basel and Montpellier.

The 3am Verdict: Jonas Omlin would provide back-up for Robin Roefs at Sunderland. He has held a similar role in Germany so would fit the bill for the Black Cats. If he made the switch to the Stadium of Light, that would likely free up Anthony Patterson to head out the exit door for more game time elsewhere. Patterson has seen his game time dry up since their promotion from the Championship and most signs point towards a departure now.

Manchester City ready to loan out Stephen Mfuni

Manchester City are ready to loan out Stephen Mfuni this winter, says reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page. Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to send the teenager to a Championship club before the window closes. He has risen up through the academy at the Etihad Stadium and has been a regular at various different youth levels over recent years.

The 17-year-old is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He made his debut in City’s recent 10-1 FA Cup win over Exeter City. The Wigan-born man operates as a defender and is left-footed.

The 3am Verdict: Stephen Mfuni is unlikely to break into Manchester City’s starting XI at this moment in time, especially after Marc Guehi’s arrival. Therefore, a loan departure would suit him between now and the end of the January transfer window. He would benefit from getting some regular game time under his belt somewhere in the Football League.
