Manchester United transfer plans in final week of January window with four exits planned

The latest Man Utd transfer news and speculation with a week left of the 2026 winter window.

Manchester United do not expect to complete any major transfer business in the final week of the January winter window.

United have until 7pm on Monday 2 February to get any deals done, with a focus on loan exits in the coming days rather than any new arrivals. Manchester World revealed earlier in the month that United did not anticipate any major arrivals in January and were prepared to wait until the summer to continue their rebuild.

There was an internal belief United already had a squad good enough to compete for Champions League qualification this season, and that has been proven under new head coach Michael Carrick. United will remain alert to any market opportunities that might arise in the final week of the window, as they were when they attempted to sign Antoine Semenyo, but there is no interest in short term solutions until the end of the season.

Manchester United transfer plans in final week of January window

Manchester United will continue their squad rebuild in the summer transfer window, with a midfield overhaul expected to be their priority.

Manchester World revealed the club will be in the market for two midfield additions this summer and they could even break their club-record transfer fee to add an elite option to their squad. United have a preference to sign a midfielder with Premier League experience and Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is considered the dream addition. There is also long-term interest in both Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba.

United are also expected to target a left winger in the summer after they failed to sign Antoine Semenyo this month, with RB Leipzig ace Ya Diomande still of interest. The club could also look to strengthen at full-back ahead of an anticipated return to European football next season, and might need to sign a new back-up goalkeeper, though they could promote loan star Radek Vitek after his recent heroics at Bristol City.

United also have no plans to allow any senior stars to leave before deadline day, with talks set to restart with Kobbie Mainoo over a new contract at the club. He was initially eager to leave on loan this month due to a lack of playing time, but has been handed a revitalised role under Michael Carrick. The club also plan to keep hold of Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee despite interest in them both this month.

Speaking last week, Carrick reiterated that any transfer decision made during his time in charge had to be for the long-term benefit of the club. "For the week or so it’s been so far it hasn’t happened just yet, the initial thoughts are what’s happening now," he said in his pre-match press conference before the Arsenal win. "The important thing for me is any decision I make or the staff make is it’s not short-term, I’ve got a responsibility to whatever happens next I’ve got to make the right decision. As time goes on we’ll work our way through it."
