Matheus Cunha has revealed that Michael Carrick told the Manchester United players that "everyone is against us" as they battled to an impressive win at Arsenal.
The Brazilian came off the bench to score the winner in a five-goal thriller at the Emirates, which saw the Red Devils come from behind to beat the Premier League leaders.
The win comes after Carrick presided over a victory over Manchester City in his first game in charge. It has furthered his own case to land the job beyond the summer, when his remit will end, and the ex-player is tapping into the experience he gained whilst he was a player in Manchester.
Carrick has galvanised the squad, with their latest win lifting them into the top four, with the 44-year-old underlining to the players just how important it is to don the United shirt.
Cunha said: "He played here so many years. He knows the feeling for Manchester United. He spoke with us and told us how big it is to play for this club. He said everyone is against us, so we have to go on the pitch and give everything."
Carrick has been equally complimentary of the summer signing, who joined from Wolves, as he praised the way he responded to starting on the bench in each of their last two games, before appearing in the second-half to score three minutes from the end.
"He [Cunha] epitomises what we've been like," said Carrick. "He has not started both games and he's been disappointed not to start. But he's used it in a really good way. He's had a real big impact and two huge moments. I fancied him to score when the ball came out of his feet. He totally deserves it because of how he has applied himself."

Harry Maguire has returned to the fold and believes having the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad back from AFCON, coupled with the quality Cunha is offering off the bench, has been a difference maker.
He said: “Obviously, we’ve got a much bigger squad now, we’ve got the lads back from AFCON, obviously got players like Matheus, coming off the bench, who, I’m sure he’s not too happy sat on the bench the last couple of games, I know what he’s like and he wants to play, but I must say he’s made the difference in the two games.
"He’s come on against City and changed the game, and today again, he’s made the difference for us. It just shows the squad of players, the attacking talent that we have now to come on and do that.”
