Patrick Dorgu scored Man United’s second goal in their 3-2 win against Arsenal on Sunday.

After the game, the Arsenal fans were heard booing as their frustration showed. There were appeals for a handball during Patrick Dorgu’s goal, which put Man United 2-1 up after 50 minutes. The ball was seen to brush the Danish winger’s hand before he smashed the ball into the top corner after a superb move from the Red Devils.

If Dorgu’s goal had been ruled out, it could have made a huge impact on the result, as the wind could have been taken out of Man United’s sails. But, instead, they managed to keep their momentum and finish the job thanks to an excellent winning goal from Matheus Cunha.

Ex-FIFA referee says Dorgu’s goal was right to stand

Amid all the appeals from Arsenal fans, and Arsenal players at the time, referee Craig Pawson called it a legal goal, with the logic that Dorgu’s hand was by his side and it wasn’t a deliberate act.

Former FIFA ref Keith Hackett believes that Pawson was correct to let the goal stand, despite Arsenal’s appeals. He told Football Insider: “As I've said on many occasions, I think the handball law is a crass law. It's genuinely too open for subjectivity, which creates inconsistency among match officials.

“We're looking for that deliberate movement, the body shape being larger. I'm happy that the player [Dorgu] had his hands down by his side when he scored. I'm never going to rule that goal out.”

It is Dorgu’s second goal in two games, as he’s scored two in Carrick’s first two games since the United boss decided to move him from wing-back to the attacking winger role.

Carrick full of praise for Dorgu after Arsenal win

Dorgu’s recent transformation under Carrick hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Man United manager, as he was full of praise for the Danish international after his sensational performance against a tough Gunners side.

Carrick said after the game: “Pat’s been a big player for us, obviously he’s scored two goals, but in terms of the threat and athleticism and quality, he’s been immense down the side with Luke Shaw against two teams that ask a lot of questions. I am delighted for him because the two goals he’s scored are very different. It’s nice to see him smiling and happy.”

Dorgu will hope to continue his impressive form under Carrick when United make the trip to play against a tough Fulham side next Sunday. If they can win that game, they could close the gap to Arsenal to nine points.
