Man Utd eyeing move to sign 'extraordinary' Brazilian star as asking price set - report

Manchester United are among the Premier League clubs keeping tabs on former Barcelona striker Vitor Roque, according to reports in Brazil.

The Old Trafford side are reportedly following Roque’s situation in Brazil, where he has enjoyed a stellar season with Palmeiras following a difficult spell in Spain.

The 'extraordinary' 20-year-old forward has netted 20 times in 59 appearances across all competitions last season, finishing as the Brazilian Serie A’s third top goalscorer.

United are unlikely to make an approach for Roque this month, as Palmeiras are looking to retain him at least until the summer transfer window.

According to Brazilian publication Radio Tupi (via SportWitness), Palmeiras have set an asking price of around €50m (£43m) for Roque following his impressive first year back in Brazil.

The club are looking to double the €25m fee they paid Barcelona for Roque last February, following the 20-year-old’s underwhelming 13-month spell with the Spanish giants.

After joining Barcelona from Athletico Paranaense in January 2024, Roque struggled for regular minutes at the Nou Camp, scoring just two goals in 16 appearances.

The 'astonishing' forward spent the first part of last season on loan at fellow La Liga side Real Betis, where he found the back of the net seven times in 33 games across all competitions.

It remains to be seen whether United’s reported interest in Roque materialises, particularly considering the Red Devils splashed almost £200m on attacking reinforcements last summer.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko were all signed, while the likes of Amad Diallo and Joshua Zirkzee have also featured prominently this season.

Who Could Man Utd Sign in January?

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick celebrates after the match

Yet to register any major transfer business this month, Manchester United are not anticipating a very busy end to the January transfer window.

The Red Devils endured a turbulent period as Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim in charge, ending the Portuguese manager’s 14-month reign.

While any outgoings remain unlikely at present, United are believed to be keeping an eye on potential midfield reinforcements before the end of the month.

According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, the Old Trafford side could pull off a surprise signing before the deadline, provided Carrick opens the door to reinforcements in the middle of the park.
