West Ham eyeing move to sign 'perfect' Man Utd star amid uncertain Old Trafford future - report

West Ham United are interested in signing Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, according to former scout Mick Brown.

The London Stadium side are reportedly keeping close tabs on the 30-year-old’s situation, as Maguire could depart on a free transfer after the season if he is unable to agree new terms with United.

West Ham missed out on a deal to sign Maguire during David Moyes’ time at the club, but are anticipated to return for the 'outstanding' defender if his situation becomes more open.

Maguire, praised as 'perfect', has less than six months remaining on his contract and was awarded Man of the Match for his display in United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

According to Brown, West Ham are not expected to be the only interested Premier League side in Maguire, who could be departing United at the end of the season:

“West Ham won’t be the only interested club because there are a few in the Premier League who could do with a player like that, but like I say, they’ve wanted him for years.

“They’ll be keeping an eye on what happens with his contract at Man United and if he’s going to be available, yeah, I think it would be a good move.”

Looking to escape the relegation zone, West Ham have secured back-to-back wins for only a second time this season by beating Sunderland and Tottenham.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are five points off safety and are expected to make further signings in January to try to boost the underperforming squad.

The Hammers have welcomed forwards Taty Castellanos and Pablo this month, and have agreed a deal to sign Fulham winger Adama Traore.

Guido Rodriguez and Lucas Paqueta’s potential departures may also force the club to look for a new midfielder late in the market, with the Brazilian a target for his boyhood club Flamengo.

As GIVEMESPORT reported on Sunday, West Ham have received an improved £36m bid from Flamengo for Paqueta, who is aiming to depart the east London club in January.

The Brazilian side saw their initial £34.6m offer rejected, with Espirito Santo wanting Paqueta to stay and help West Ham in the Premier League relegation battle.

The Hammers would prefer to sell the Brazilian in the summer, but Flamengo remain optimistic of reaching an agreement, with clubs now in discussions over payment terms after positive talks.
