Bruno Fernandes wants to wait until Manchester United's next managerial appointment before deciding on his future at the club.
The skipper will not be short of offers if he does decide to leave Old Trafford and he came close to leaving last summer, but rejected the chance to join the Saudi Pro League. His future remains uncertain with United keen to keep the 31-year-old but Fernandes set to demand a wage hike if he is to sign a new contract.
And the Portugal international will not rush a decision, with the midfielder prepared to wait until the summer and who United appoint as their next boss before making a final call. He has become disillusioned with how the club is run and the managerial changes.
Fernandes has a contract until 2027 with the option of a 12-month extension but would seek wages of around £400,000 a week to stay at United, knowing his next contract will be the last major deal of his career.
That would make him United's highest-paid player, but the imminent departure of Casemiro in the summer does allow United some financial flexibility, although it remains to be seen if the club would hand that sort of deal to a player in his 30s with no resale value.
United will stand a better chance of keeping Fernandes if they can offer him Champions League football. He has won just two domestic trophies since joining United in 2020, and needs to know he is at a club capable of fulfilling his ambitions.
