Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez involved his dad, as well as the travelling fans in his celebrations following the team’s win against Arsenal on Sunday. Goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha saw United come out as 3-2 winners.

Arsenal had taken the lead in the first half, when Martinez turned the ball into his own net. But United were able to level the score before half time.

They then took the lead in the second half. With six minutes left to play, Arsenal made it 2-2 through Mikel Merino, but it was United who came out on top as both teams pushed for a winner, thanks to Cunha’s stunning strike in the 87th minute.

The win means that United have picked up two unexpected victories in Michael Carrick’s first two games as interim head coach, following last weekend’s 2-0 win over Manchester City. The results have moved the club up into fourth place in the Premier League table.

The full-time whistle brought scenes of celebration both on the pitch and in the away end at the Emirates Stadium. Martinez was spotted jumping the barriers and heading into the away end.

It has emerged that his dad was part of the travelling fans. Sky Sports Premier League presenter Dave Jones said: "Lisandro Martinez straight into the United fans.

“That's actually his dad, we're told, who is there amongst the travelling United support. And what an emotional moment for him as well, who has spent so much of the season, or so much of his time at Manchester United in the treatment room.

“But he has enjoyed the last couple of weeks, that's for sure."

Martinez returned from a cruciate ligament injury back in November, after suffering the problem back in February. Since making his return, the defender has featured in every Premier League game.

Ahead of, and following the match against Man City, the Argentine has been involved in a war of words with United legends Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt. The defender took exception to criticism from the duo before the match, and responded following the 2-0 win.

Scholes has since admitted that he should have worded his criticism better, but has refused to apologise.

United and Martinez will hope to continue the momentum from their last two results when they host Fulham at Old Trafford in the Premier League next Sunday (2pm kick-off). They then have another home game the following Saturday when they play Tottenham (12.30pm kick-off).
