All eyes are on Manchester United's transfer activity with just a week left of the January window. Given United's struggles under Ruben Amorim heading into this month, many supporters would have expected several fresh signings to boost their chances of securing Champions League qualification.

Yet, Amorim's sacking threw a spanner in the works as he was replaced by interim boss Michael Carrick, who has enjoyed an incredible start to his reign with victories over title challengers Manchester City and Arsenal.

United missed out on signing winger Antoine Semenyo earlier this month, with the Ghanaian instead opting to join cross-city rivals Manchester City. Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo's situation appears more stable given Amorim's dismissal.

Ndidi verdict clear

Reports from Turkey claimed last week that United had set their sights on Besiktas midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. It was reported that United had asked about the terms of a potential deal for the Nigerian, who was himself keen on a return to the Premier League, having previously played for Leicester.

However, Fabrizio Romano now claims United are not proceeding with a deal to sign the 29-year-old this transfer window, despite having explored midfield market opportunities.

It is understood that Besiktas would demand a loan move with an obligation to buy in the region of £12million. But United are only interested in a temporary arrangement, as they don't want to sign a midfielder permanently before appointing their new manager. Ndidi only arrived in Turkey last summer, and his contract runs out in 2028.

United are reportedly interested in signing Rennes forward Mohamed Kader Meite. The 18-year-old France U21s striker has enjoyed a rapid rise in Ligue 1, capturing the attention of several clubs thanks to his blistering pace and eye for goal.

Reports in France suggest United have already sent scouts to watch Meite in action, though the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Brighton, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brentford are said to have done the same over the past month.

Should United opt to bring the 6ft4in talent to Old Trafford this month, however, they will have to offload Joshua Zirkzee first. Otherwise, a move in the summer may prove more feasible.
