Two key Man United players are set to leave Old Trafford in the summer when their contracts expire.
Man United have had a quiet January transfer window so far in terms of player transfers, although there has been news on a couple of players’ exits in the summer. Two Man United players are out of contract, and it is understood they are both set to leave.
Harry Maguire’s seven-year spell at Old Trafford looks to be coming to an end, as it’s understood the 32-year-old isn’t going to sign a new contract, even though he’s become a regular starter since Michael Carrick became United boss.
Chelsea keen to bring Maguire to Stamford Bridge
In terms of Maguire’s next destination in the summer, several Premier League clubs are understood to be keen, because of his leadership skills and extensive experience in the league, both for Man United and previously at Leicester City.
According to a report by Caught Offside, the likes of West Ham, Everton and Bournemouth are all interested in Maguire for when he becomes a free agent in the summer. However, the same report also suggests that Chelsea could be interested in a somewhat surprising move.
Chelsea have been trying to sign a centre-back in the January transfer window, as Liam Rosenior feels as though it is his biggest need at the club. They had been linked to signing Rennes star Jeremy Jacquet; however, reports of a potential move have quietened in recent weeks, and so they could opt for a more experienced option such as Maguire in the summer.
Where could Casemiro go in the summer?
In terms of Casemiro, it feels as though a move away from the Premier League is more likely. Reports have linked the 33-year-old to the Saudi Pro League as previously mentioned, but it is understood that he wants to remain playing at the top level.
Based on his much-improved form this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some top European clubs make a move to sign him, taking into account Casemiro’s extensive Champions League experience too.
Perhaps the biggest issue, which is why he is being linked to the Saudi Pro League, is his wages. Man United are paying the 33-year-old £350,000 per week, making him their highest-paid player. If he were to stay in Europe, the 33-year-old may have to take a pay cut, as there aren’t many top clubs that would be willing to pay that much for a 33-year-old midfielder.
That’s why a move to the Saudi League would make sense for the Brazilian, but it depends on whether he would be willing to leave Europe, and likely sacrifice his place in the Brazil national side.
