Manchester United are expected to target a left-sided winger in the summer transfer window and have earmarked RB Leipzig rising star Yan Diomande as a potential target, according to journalist Rich Fay.
The Old Trafford side are anticipating yet another busy off-season and could target at least three major additions to the squad, with two new midfielders also on the agenda.
United are preparing for Casemiro’s departure at the end of his contract and have a preference for signing a midfielder with Premier League experience, with Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson topping their shortlist.
Man Utd Interested in Yan Diomande
Yan Diomande
According to Fay, United view Diomande as a potential alternative to Antoine Semenyo, whom they failed to sign this month, with the Ghanaian forward instead opting to join rivals Manchester City.
The Red Devils could also look to bolster their full-back options ahead of an anticipated return to European competition, despite Patrick Dorgu’s standout performances on the left side.
The Danish starlet scored his third Premier League goal of the season in United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday, registering his fifth goal contribution in the last seven games.
However, Dorgu is not a natural left winger, and the lack of options in that position could lead United to explore a move for Diomande, who is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football.
The 19-year-old has taken the Bundesliga by storm since joining Leipzig from Leganes last summer, scoring six goals and providing five assists in 17 appearances.
A host of Premier League clubs are believed to be keeping close tabs on Diomande’s situation, with Leipzig ruling out any potential mid-season exit.
The German club could demand as much as €100m (£87m) for the ‘outrageous’ forward, who is under contract until June 2030.
Anderson to Snub Man Utd Interest?
Elliot Anderson
Among United’s top targets for the summer transfer window, Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson could end up snubbing interest from Old Trafford in favour of a move to Manchester City.
The 23-year-old is reportedly leaning towards joining Pep Guardiola’s side after the season, with moves for Baleba and Wharton viewed as more realistic options for United.
Any move for a new midfielder is likely to take place in the summer window, although there remains a possibility United could pull off a surprise deal before the February 2 deadline.
