Michael Carrick has defied all expectations with his interim head coach run until the end of the season, with United picking up back-to-back wins in the Premier League.

The former Middlesbrough head coach led Man Utd to a stunning 2-0 win over Manchester City in their thrilling Manchester derby performance at Old Trafford.

Following Man Utd’s encounter against Manchester City, the Red Devils collected another major three points after their showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates.

Roy Keane did praise United’s display under Michael Carrick, but the Sky Sports pundit’s rivalry with the Red Devils interim head coach remains truly alive.

The 54-year-old legendary former Man Utd captain was not afraid to fire digs at Carrick and the ex-Middlesbrough boss’ partner, Lisa Roughead, in recent weeks.

Roy Keane put his foot down further by arguing that United legend Carrick should be appointed the next permanent head coach at Old Trafford.

“I think if United win every game from now until the end of the season, I still would NOT [sic] be giving him the job,” he said on Sky Sports.

“I just think United need a bigger, more experienced manager. It’s as simple as that.”

Man Utd interim head coach Michael Carrick is living rent-free in Roy Keane’s head without even trying

If Carrick and Roy Keane were playing a chess match, the former has already completed checkmate and the latter is not willing to move on from the past.

Keane’s armchair punditry has been blockbuster entertainment for Sky Sports in the past, despite repeating the same ranting effect every time he talks about football.

However, the iconic former Red Devils midfielder has not done himself any favours with United fans over his reaction to Carrick’s interim spell at Old Trafford.

Carrick already won his battle against Keane after he batted away the Irish hardman’s “totally irrelevant” comments aimed at him and Lisa Roughead.

Grudges are one thing to hold onto, but Keane’s petulance as a pundit is mirrored by the ill-fated end to his managerial career and transition to an armchair commentator.

Whatever happens next for Carrick – from now and until the end of the season – he has already had the biggest laugh over Keane by not biting back at his comments.
