Michael Carrick has enjoyed a superb beginning to his Manchester United reign with consecutive victories over Manchester City and Arsenal. United have returned to the top-four and will be eager to secure their Champions League position by the conclusion of the 2025/2026 campaign.

Nevertheless, they have yet to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window and have less than a week remaining to enhance Carrick's options and turn their Champions League ambitions into reality.

United have been linked with various signings across different positions, although most of their transfer activity was completed in the summer, securing players such as Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

With this in mind, the Manchester Evening News has examined the latest Man Utd transfer news and speculation with a week remaining in the window.

Vitor Roque 'targeted' amid rivalry

Brazilian publication Rádio Tupi suggests Man Utd, Tottenham and Chelsea are all monitoring Brazilian forward Vitor Roque. Nevertheless, Palmeiras have set a substantial £43m valuation, according to the report, reports the Mirror.

The 20 year old striker excelled at Cruzeiro and Athletico Paranaense during his early career, netting numerous goals in Brazil's premier division, which attracted Barcelona's attention. However, the Brazilian forward failed to establish himself in Spain.

He has found the net just twice in 16 outings before a loan switch to Real Betis.

He netted seven goals in 33 appearances during his loan stint at Betis, before heading back to Brazil and notching an impressive 20 goals in 59 appearances following a €25.5million (£21.1m) transfer to Palmeiras.

The report suggests none of the Premier League trio have submitted a formal bid for the striker, who is only in his fifth year of senior football.

Man Utd 'to ambush' Saudi bid for French star

FootMercato reports Man Utd are preparing to make an approach for Rennes star Mohamed Kader Meïté. Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal are, also, reportedly readying a €40m (£34.7m) offer for the 18 year old striker.

Meite has found the net three times in 18 appearances for the Ligue 1 club across all competitions this season. Neymar's former club Al-Hilal are understood to be interested in securing the young talent.

The report suggests Man Utd could 'ambush' the deal, should one of their strikers depart this month. Joshua Zirkzee appears the most likely candidate to leave - having been linked with a return to Serie A, with AS Roma interested in his services.

It remains unclear whether Man Utd would be prepared to pay a similar fee to the Saudi Arabian side, nor does it appear likely that Zirkzee will exit Old Trafford this month - if reports are to be believed.
