United do not need to make a decision on Michael Carrick’s future right now – but the former midfielder is putting together a strong early case.

Fans on TalkingPoints have been discussing the possibility of Carrick landing the job full time.

United supporters are feeling optimistic after not only the wins, but the style of the victories.

One fan wrote: “Yes give the job to Michael Carrick. And get Man Utd back to the top that’s where they should be for this fantastic club.”

Another fan added: “Long live Carrick, he’s the only one along with his carefully picked team who knows how Utd tick.”

And a third supporter added: “Yes, he deserves it. I pray that he is given the opportunity.”

There was more backing for Carrick with another fan agreeing that he should get the job on a permanent basis, “Yes [he] deserves it after what he did to Man City and now Arsenal.”

A fifth supporter added: “If MC and his backroom staff continue in their current vein, I don’t see why he shouldn’t get the permanent job.”

Another supporter wants to see the positive trend continue, commenting: “If United play the rest of the season like they played with City and Arsenal, then it would be common sense to keep Michael Carrick in charge. Is like that saying, ‘”‘Why try to fix something that isn’t broken?'”

And a seventh fan added: “Yes, if he did well, why not? Moreover, he understands the United’s culture much better than other non ex-players. Why spend millions to hire another one? Arsenal is the finest example with Arteta.”

Fans express caution

Manchester United are not rushing into a decision on Michael Carrick after just two games, despite the fan enthusiasm.

Many supporters are urging a little caution, and want to see how Carrick deals with adversity when it comes his way.

One fan wrote: “I think it’s entirely possible Man U could go on a fabulous run of PL wins between now and seasons end.

“But I would not be tempted to name him permanent manager based on that alone. It is how Carrick deals with defeats and injuries that would be the key as this will happen. He won’t be able to handle the interference from the hierarchy! Get Ancelotti!”

Another fan added: “No need to rush. Let him clear every hurdle each week with the best result.

“Priority must be buying best players as replacements. Hope we are able to buy someone as good as Case to replace him.”

The debate will go on all season – but after two games, Carrick has put himself firmly in the conversation.
