Manchester United have emerged as an option for Stade Rennais’ Mohamed Kader Meïté in the winter market.
That’s according to Ouest-France, who cover the latest on Manchester United’s interest in the 18-year-old.
Meïté initially joined the Ligue 1 side’s academy for free in 2022. He was with their youth teams for two years and made his way into the senior team in 2024.
Since then, the France U21 international played 1,159 minutes from 32 games. He scored five goals and contributed two assists of which three goals and two assists are from this season.
The Red Devils would have taken notice of the young attacker profile and potential. Two days ago, Foot Mercato reported Manchester United are waiting in ambush to try and sign him. The same source has covered Al-Hilal’s interest in the Frenchman.
Ouest-France also report on both the Premier League side and the Saudi club’s interest.
Stade Rennais completed the signing of Sebastian Szymański from Fenerbahçe last week. The Poland international’s arrival means the Ligue 1 side are no longer looking for another attacker in this window.
There would only be a change in their plan if one of the existing attackers were to leave. The newspaper explains that possibility exists as Meïté is desired by Al-Hill and ‘notably Manchester United’.
He has a contract until 2028, and Transfermarkt currently value him at €10m. Ouest-France are indicating Stade Rennais could consider sanctioning a late move if there is an offer over €30m.
Youngster would face big fight at Manchester United
If Manchester United were to sign him, Meïté would face a tough route to the team, but that would be expected given his age.
Michael Carrick has Benjamin Šeško and Joshua Zirkzee as the recognised strikers at Old Trafford. However, he started Bryan Mbeumo up front in Manchester United’s wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.
There’s been serious doubt over Zirkzee’s future, and if he doesn’t go this month then a summer transfer is a distinct possibility.
