Michael Carrick has enjoyed the perfect start to life as the new head coach of Man Utd but he is not guaranteed the role permanently.
Manchester United could have a difficult dilemma on their hands when they aim to appoint a new permanent head coach at the end of the season.
Michael Carrick was appointed to take charge of the club on a temporary basis until the summer, with the plan always to hire a permanent successor to Ruben Amorim then. United do not want to rush their decision and plan to evaluate several top candidates for the role before a final decision is made in the coming months.
Although his job title does not refer to an 'interim' or 'caretaker' role, Carrick's appointment was intended to be a short-term solution that would grant the club enough time to look at candidates for the permanent position. However, after fantastic wins over Man City and Arsenal in his first two matches, United might find it hard not to give him the job full-time come the end of the season.

Scholes names another club Carrick could manage
Paul Scholes was a former teammate of Michael Carrick at Manchester United, but he is not so sure the fellow former midfielder will get the job permanently at the end of the season. The pressure is off Carrick to an extent in his current capacity and there will be much more scrutiny on him should he get the job permanently.
Whatever happens, Carrick has done his hopes of landing a top job no harm so far and will hope to keep that belief high during the final 15 matches of his reign. Scholes still thinks Carrick would miss out on the United role to other elite candidates, though he thinks he could fit the profile should Tottenham Hotspur be on the lookout for a new manager anytime soon.
"He’s come into the job now and it’s been that bad for a year that it couldn’t really get any worse so the pressure isn’t really on you while you’re interim manager," Scholes said on 'The Good, The Bad, & The Football' podcast.
"Once you take that job full-time, at the start of the season next year, let’s say, all of a sudden you’ve got to be winning games straightaway. They will be scarred a little bit from the Ole [Gunnar Solksjaer] thing. If the Ole thing hadn’t have happened then it would probably be more likely.
"But if Michael has got to go up against, say, Thomas Tuchel in the summer then there’s only one winner if you’re looking at coaching big clubs and winning big prizes so you can’t really compete with that." He added: "It could be like a Tottenham manager from this [for Carrick]. It wouldn’t surprise me."
