Patrick Dorgu injury lay-off update as Michael Carrick suffers Man Utd nightmare

Patrick Dorgu has been ruled out for 10 weeks after he was inured against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Dorgu, 21, was a standout for Manchester United as they stunned the table toppers at the Emirates Stadium - the Dane even adding his name to the scoresheet with a wonder strike. However, with ten minutes left, Dorgu pulled up and forced off the pitch.

According to The Athletic, United are still assessing the injury, but they have an early estimate of 10 weeks on the sidelines, which is worse than first hoped. Interim boss Michael Carrick had initially hoped that Dorgu had gone off with cramp, rather than a serious issue.

Speaking after the game, he said: “Pat’s been a big player for us, obviously he’s scored two goals but in terms of the threat and athleticism and quality, he’s been immense down the side with Luke [Shaw] against two teams that ask a lot of questions.

“I am delighted for him because the two goals he’s scored are very different goals. It's nice to see him smiling and happy. He obviously came off with, hopefully, a little bit of cramp, hopefully, it's nothing worse.

“At this stage, it's hard to tell, so we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully it's not too bad.”

Ten weeks out would see Dorgu miss the club’s next eight matches - and put him in line for a return after March’s international break, with United taking on Leeds on April 11.

It would be a major blow for the Red Devils, with Dorgu their standout star under a resurgent Michael Carrick.

Dorgu will join fellow defender Matthijs de Ligt on the sidelines, who has missed the last 11 games with a back issue sustained in early December.

Speaking about the Dutchman, Carrick said: “He had a bit of setback before I arrived.

“I think he was just a little bit slower than we’d hoped. But he’s certainly getting closer and hopefully in the next couple of weeks or so, without putting an exact time, he’ll be back and around it and it’ll be great to have him back.”
