Matheus Cunha has provided insight into the message that Michael Carrick has given to the Manchester United dressing room. Carrick was appointed by United as their interim head coach until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim’s exit earlier this month.

Since taking charge at Old Trafford, Carrick has overseen wins in both games against Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Reds recently claimed a 3-2 victory away at league leaders Arsenal on Sunday evening, with Cunha on the score sheet alongside Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu.

The win moved United up to fourth place in the Premier League table, leapfrogging Liverpool and Chelsea in the process, as the race for Champions League qualification continues.

Cunha scored the winning goal for United at the Emirates Stadium, and the summer signing from Wolves has explained how Carrick has managed to motivate the dressing room during the early weeks of his tenure as interim head coach.

"He knows the feeling, he played here so many years. He knows the feeling for Manchester, he knows the feeling for United,” Cunha told BBC Sport.

“He knows how the fans want to feel. He tried to show us every single moment, he tried to talk us to understand in moments and say 'everyone is against us', so I think we feel more together."

Cunha also provided insight into the mindset of the United squad that helped them claim the victory over Arsenal, which saw them battle from a goal behind in the first half, as well as conceding an equaliser in the final ten minutes in North London.

"I think we showed character and power in the group,” Cunha said. “We know what to expect, come here, I think it's the best team in the world today, honestly.

“They play with Mikel (Arteta) so long, they know every single tactics, every single thing that he feels, so we know how hard it will to be to come here, but we are United and everything we do is to win the games."

United’s next match will see them host Fulham at Old Trafford in the Premier League, where Carrick and Co. will be looking to get three wins on the bounce to boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
