Aston Villa on verge of emergency signing – Work to seal in ‘next few hours’

Aston Villa are on the verge of securing Douglas Luiz’s return to the club on loan from Juventus until the end of the season.

That’s according to Sport Mediaset and Tuttomercatoweb. They report that a deal has now been agreed with Juventus for the Brazilian.

Sport Mediaset report that Aston Villa have decided to press go on the matter of signing a midfielder after losing Boubacar Kamara, John McGinn and Youri Tielemans to injury.

Unai Emery ‘strongly called’ for Luiz to return. A report at the weekend made it clear that he would have welcomed the midfielder back to Villa Park with open arms.

That now appears to be on the cards. Luiz is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest but he’s not in their plans and they want to send him back to Juventus. Luiz is fine with that and has given his total approval to a return to Birmingham.

Negotiations proceeded from there. Aston Villa pushed hard to get a deal done quickly and beat competition from Chelsea. The deal could now be done in ‘the next few hours’.

TMW say the same. According to their information, Luiz is set to return to Juventus before being shipped to Aston Villa. That deal will be until the end of the season. There’s no indication that the loan includes an option to make his return permanent.

Instead, it appears to be a quick, emergency option that suits everyone. What happens beyond that remains to be seen.
