Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly in talks to secure a permanent transfer away from Old Trafford next summer.

The Cameroon international is currently on loan with Turkish club Trabzonspor and has impressed in the Turkish Super Lig, losing just three of the 16 games he's featured in.

They currently sit in third place behind Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, with Onana playing a key role since joining the club. United sanctioned the loan move following Senne Lammens' arrival at Old Trafford, which pushed the former Inter Milan shot stopper down the pecking order.

However, The Daily Mail claim his former club, Inter, are in talks about a potential return to Serie A, with Onana's representatives in Italy to discuss a possible move back to the San Siro.

The report, however, claims the Cameroonian has not given up hope of returning to Old Trafford and reclaiming the number one spot from Lammens.

Nevertheless, the expectation is that Onana will leave Old Trafford this summer, after the 29-year-fell down the pecking order following several high-profile mistakes.

United spent £47.2million to sign Onana from Inter Milan back in the summer of 2023. The goalkeeper had helped the Italian outfit reach the Champions League Final, where they were narrowly beaten by Manchester City.

He also helped Inter win the Italian Cup and Super Cup during his time at the San Siro and is highly regarded by his former club.

Inter's current number one, Yann Sommer, is expected to leave the club in the summer, and the report claims the Serie A side has held talks with Onana to bring him back to the club.

The goalkeeper reportedly still owns property in Milan, but wages are said to be a potential stumbling point after being given a pay rise on his loan move to Turkey.

Onana still has two-and-a-half years left on his current Old Trafford deal and the report claims United may have to pay him off for any deal to go through.

Onana's future isn't the only unknown at United this summer with their further uncertainty about the club's head coach.

Michael Carrick has impressed since taking over as interim head coach, winning back-to-back games against Manchester City and Arsenal to move them back into the top-four.
