Tottenham make surprise enquiry over the possibility of signing Premier League striker

Tottenham Hotspur are planning even more signings after investing in Conor Gallagher and Souza.

Spurs’ problems in creating and scoring goals has been well-documented under Thomas Frank. The team’s most effective forward this season, Richarlison, has been ruled out for several weeks due to a hamstring injury, while Dominic Solanke has just returned to action after a long injury layoff.

Randal Kolo Muani is still searching for his first Premier League goal after arriving on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. The Frenchman’s future has become uncertain after he failed to live up to the expectations at White Hart Lane. Juventus have recently made contact over a potential loan move for Kolo Muani, who scored eight goals in 16 league appearances for the Turin giants in the second half of last season on loan.

There is a growing belief that the Bondy-born talent may not be suited to the rigours of Premier League football. If he doesn’t play enough and fails to hit form, the 27-year-old could most likely miss out on a place in the France squad for this summer’s World Cup. To revive his career, Kolo Muani is exploring options this month, with Juventus looking to re-sign him until the end of the campaign.

To possibly replace Kolo Muani in the squad, Tottenham have now expressed surprise interest in a Premier League striker.

Tottenham make shock enquiry for Manchester United outcast Joshua Zirkzee

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham and Crystal Palace have made shock enquiries for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee. Serie A duo AS Roma and Juventus remain keen on the player as well.

Joshua Zirkzee has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United this season following the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha during the past summer’s transfer window. This has led to him starting just four times from 14 Premier League outings thus far, netting two goals and registering an assist.

A muscular problem has deprived the Netherlands international of the chance to be a part of Man United interim boss Michael Carrick’s first two matchday squads against Manchester City and Arsenal. In fact, he might not be a part of Carrick’s initial plans at least. He is expected to be available for selection at some point, maybe in time for Sunday’s visit of Fulham to Old Trafford, but when fit, Zirkzee isn’t expected to walk back into the side.

With regular minutes at a premium in Manchester, the centre-forward wants to leave the club to play more often to bolster his hopes of getting a call-up to the World Cup squad. The Dutch star’s situation has led to Spurs and Crystal Palace asking about his availability. The report adds that United have maintained that Zirkzee will not leave before the transfer deadline, but if their stance changes, the London duo are prepared to act.

Spurs must avoid Zirkzee signing

Spurs definitely need more firepower up top if they are to end the rut and challenge for European spots. Frank cannot expect Solanke to start clocking 90 minutes in every game, while Kolo Muani’s future in N17 remains uncertain. The north Londoners need a prolific goalscorer to support Solanke, but Zirkzee does not fit the criteria.

Since joining United in a £36.5m move from Bologna in the summer of 2024, Zirkzee has netted only nine goals in 65 appearances. This simply shows that the Netherlands international is not a prolific goalscorer and would not solve Tottenham’s problems of putting the ball in the back of the net. Also, the ex-Bayern Munich man’s lack of physicality and pace would not see him fit well in Frank’s system at Tottenham.

That said, Spurs must avoid signing Zirkzee and explore the market for better striker alternatives.
