Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their interest in Stade Rennais star Mohamed Kader Meïté. The teenager is a target for Al-Hilal, and the Saudi Pro League side have had a bid rejected already.
According to a report in The Guardian, Meïté is seen as a striker with massive potential, and Manchester United are keen to lure him to Old Trafford. They are ready to launch a move for the Frenchman, who has played 19 times for the Ligue1 side this season.
Al-Hilal made a €26 million move for the teenager this week, but it was swiftly rejected by Rennes. They are not interested in selling their teenager and are also in talks with the forward to extend his deal.
Meïté has a contract with the club until 2028 and has been a key player this season. He has scored three goals and assisted twice, and the scouts have identified him as a good player for the Red Devils.
Manchester United signed Benjamin Sesko at the start of the season, while also getting in Chido Obi from Arsenal in 2024. They now looking to lure in another teenager, who could be fighting for the first-team spot next season, if signed.
The move could also signal the end of Rasmus Hojlund, who is currently on loan at Napoli. Joshua Zirkzee's time at the club will also be questioned, and the Dutchman also has interest from Italian sides this month.
Manchester United questioned for signing Benjamin Sesko by Teddy Sheringham
Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has questioned the club's decision to sign Benjamin Sesko in the summer. The £74 million signing has scored just five goals this season and the former player believes that they should have signed an established striker instead. He told GOAL:
“I’ve quite liked Benjamin Sesko recently. I thought he played very well at Leeds, linking play up. He scored a couple of goals recently. But he is a young lad, still learning his game. There is a big difference between a young lad enjoying his game for an average Premier League team and then going in at Man United and being expected to lead the line for a top club and challenging for honours. He’s still finding his game. I believe he will be a good player. It’s not what Man United need at the moment, someone learning, they need the finished article in there.”
Manchester United have also been linked Vitor Roque, who failed to make it at Barcelona.
