Cole Palmer has struggled with injury this season, but could the Chelsea playmaker be on the move?
With Manchester United beating Man City and Arsenal, Chelsea now have a fight on their hands to make the top four of the Premier League.
There is no longer an excuse for dropping cheap points having shown what they are capable of. Any dip in performance should be seen as a failure of attitude at the feet of the players who have struggled to show any hint of consistency all season.
Cole Palmer makes Man United transfer decision
There is still a long way to go for Chelsea and United to challenge for the Premier League title, however, someone of Cole Palmer’s quality could be the difference.
The Chelsea playmaker is a well-known Red Devils fan and a report by The Sun has hinted that the 23-year old would entertain a move to Old Trafford despite his upbringing across Manchester at City. The report claims that Palmer “would be open” to return north and to join his boyhood club with The Sun also revealing that “Palmer is unsettled in London” only a couple of years after moving to the capital.
Mancunian Palmer would “welcome any interest” from the red half of Manchester and fulfil a lifelong dream by running out for the club he supports. No move to City would be considered but Palmer “misses his hometown of Wythenshawe” where he is known to still spend a lot of time with family and friends.
Chelsea’s whole recruitment strategy will be tested if United make an offer for Palmer that is more than the £40m that was paid to City. Is BlueCo’s plan to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League or is it to buy and sell players for a profit? If it is the former, then Palmer can’t be sold, however, if he is unhappy, they might not have much of a choice.
Was Palmer always going to want to leave Chelsea?
Palmer has hinted already that he didn’t want to leave Manchester. Not long after moving to Chelsea, he explained how his move south came about and that he wasn’t entirely happy about having to leave his home town.
“My thing was to never leave City," he told Sky Sports. "That was not my intention. I wanted to go on loan for a year, come back and be ready for the first team.
"But they said I couldn't go on loan, either stay or you get sold. So then, Chelsea rang me. I said I wanted to go to Chelsea and I'm really happy to be here. I'm very glad I made the decision to come here."
Things can change very quickly in football, if there was a signing that would unite United fans, bringing Palmer “home” would be right up there.
