Manchester United are enjoying a remarkable surge under interim head coach Michael Carrick. With consecutive victories over Premier League title contenders, the Reds have climbed into the Champions League spots and are looking upwards rather than downwards.

The transfer window appears set to be a quiet affair at Old Trafford given the uncertainty over the managerial position, despite Carrick's impressive beginning.

Nevertheless, this hasn't prevented the rumour mill from generating fresh speculation at the Theatre of Dreams, with Chelsea star Cole Palmer among those linked.

For the former Middlesbrough manager and his players, their priority for the rest of the campaign will be sustaining their excellent form and keeping their top-four rivals at arm's length.

Below, the Manchester Evening News has examined the latest Manchester United transfer speculation.

United to increase interest in Meite

According to The Guardian, Manchester United are weighing up whether to intensify their pursuit of Kader Meite.

The Red Devils are understood to have held discussions with the 18-year-old's representatives regarding a potential transfer. It has been claimed that Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al-Hilal are also monitoring the Rennes striker.

Meite will reportedly command a fee of around €30million (£26m), with the France under-21 international having two-and-a-half years left on his existing contract at the Ligue 1 club.

He has netted three times and provided two assists across 17 French top-flight outings and has already caught the attention of Europe's elite clubs, with Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly interested, whilst other reports suggest Crystal Palace and Chelsea are monitoring his progress.

Meite has experienced a remarkable ascent, having only made his first-team bow as a 17-year-old in November 2024.

Onana permanent exit lined up

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly moving towards an Old Trafford departure after being replaced by Senne Lammens as United's first-choice keeper.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Cameroon goalkeeper's representatives have conducted discussions with Inter Milan regarding a potential return. Onana moved to United from the Italian club after impressive performances at San Siro during their journey to the Champions League final in 2023.

The goalkeeper is presently on loan at Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig, having made the move following Lammens' arrival as Ruben Amorim restructured his goalkeeping setup.

The report suggests that whilst the 29-year-old hasn't abandoned hope of his United career, he is anticipated to depart permanently as the possibility of replacing Yann Sommer materialises.

Onana's displays in Turkey are believed to have reminded Inter of his revival, with the goalkeeper featuring in Trabzonspor's run of just three losses in 16 fixtures.

Zirkzee attracting Premier League interest

According to teamTALK, United forward Joshua Zirkzee has drawn attention from struggling Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dutch striker has seen limited playing time at Old Trafford this season following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

United are reportedly unwilling to approve the sale and weaken their squad midway through the season, particularly with the club chasing Champions League qualification whilst currently holding the advantage.

Zirkzee has recorded just nine goals and four assists in 65 appearances, prompting growing speculation about his future, with a move back to Serie A frequently suggested.
