Phil Jones says Man Utd player has been‘absolutely brilliant’ and nobody is speaking about him

Phil Jones believes one of Manchester United’s top performers this season has gone under the radar, despite performing consistently.

It has been a challenging season for Manchester United, with poor results and a mid-season change in the dugout following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal at the beginning of January.

Darren Fletcher took charge of the team as caretaker head coach for two matches before the role of head coach went to Michael Carrick until the end of the season.

There has been a big improvement in terms of results under Carrick, with United beating Man City and Arsenal in his first two matches.

After a dramatic start to 2026, what is your message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe?

United will be looking to make it three wins from three when they host Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Carrick and his coaching staff are responsible for the improved results, but so are the players for standing up for the occasion. Now they will be challenged to do that against the lesser teams.

Patrick Dorgu and Bryan Mbeumo have dominated the headlines in recent weeks, but there are other players shining in the background, even when results don’t go United’s way.

Phil Jones hails Senne Lammens

Mbeumo is bound to take the headlines for his goals. The same applies to Dorgu, who enjoyed a rise in form before picking up a hamstring injury that could keep him out of action for 10 weeks.

Other players deserving of praise include Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez.

However, former United defender Phil Jones has argued that new signing Senne Lammens has gone under the radar, despite his impressive performances in his debut season at the club.

It could be argued that it’s a good thing when people aren’t talking about your goalkeeper because it means they aren’t making clangers every week, like Andre Onana did in his first two seasons at Old Trafford.

Speaking on Sports Illustrated FC, Jones wanted to make a point of Lammens’ performances, saying: “I want to touch on just quickly Senne Lammens. I think he’s been absolutely brilliant since he’s come in.

“The amount of controversy that we had over the goalkeeping situation for the last two years.

“I think the fact that nobody spoke about him, the fact that nobody’s highlighted him in any single game speaks volumes and I think the way he’s come in and the way he’s handled himself because it’s a tough shirt to wear that number one jersey for United.

“But I think he’s done incredibly well and yeah, pleased for him. Really pleased for him.”

Is Senne Lammens actually Manchester United’s best signing of the season?

Senne Lammens enjoyed Man Utd’s win over Arsenal

When speaking to the press after United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal, Lammens revealed how Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke with Carrick following the full-time whistle.

Lammens also stated how it was one of his fondest memories yet at United.

“He was talking to the coach. It’s nice to see them [United board] as well, like supporting the team as well, as they have,” Lammens said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“So it’s always a good feeling and good support from them.”

He added: “I think it was one of the better ones, better feelings of my career,” he said of the win over the Gunners.

“Away as well, yeah, whilst last week [against City] was at home, which is also really nice and really special. This one felt like a little bit more hard work. It wasn’t always the best play from us, but they also games you have to win if you want to be at the top.

“So today we did that, I think just hardworking, defending together, and then at the end, the subs like Cunha made a difference, and also, the people who come in give our team energy.”
