Chelsea’s extraordinary price-tag for Cole Palmer revealed as Liam Rosenior plays down Man Utd rumours

Cole Palmer has recently been linked with a shock move to Manchester United but reports suggest a deal would involve an extraordinary price.

The positive mood around Old Trafford has only increased following the 3-2 away win against Arsenal in the Premier League after already beating Manchester City in the derby previously.

The revolution under Michael Carrick will now face a different test. Even under Ruben Amorim, the club recorded big wins against the top six, like against Liverpool and Chelsea. However, it has been the games where Manchester United have been the favourites that the club has often succumbed to the pressure.

In the next gameweek, the Red Devils will be hosting Fulham, who, in their own right, are pushing for European football as they sit in seventh.

Away from the field, the club will be paying close attention to the situation of Bruno Fernandes in the summer. The captain reportedly is not deciding on where his future lies until after the World Cup.

Chelsea set record price tag for Palmer

In recent days, rumours linking Cole Palmer to Manchester United in the summer have begun to heat up despite Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior claiming the Blues talisman is happy in London.

Should Fernandes leave the club in the summer, this would pave a natural pathway for Palmer to play a similar position at Old Trafford.

According to TeamTalk, Chelsea would want something close to £150 million for the Englishman, which would shatter the English transfer record. Alexander Isak’s £130 million move to Liverpool is the current record.

The outlet also claimed that Palmer would encourage any move from United as it would be fulfilling his boyhood dream of representing the club, as well as allowing him to move closer to his family and friends amid rumours he is homesick.

In another bombshell, according to TeamTalk, Palmer currently has no interest in a return to City while Pep Guardiola is at the helm. He came through the academy at United’s rivals before leaving for Chelsea in 2023.

No-brainer deal

Due to the calibre of player that is Fernandes, any replacement would have to be of the same world-class ilk. Able to put a huge volume of goal contributions and be the main talisman of the side.

A move for one of England’s best players and a boyhood fan would be a no-brainer. In 110 games for the Blues, Palmer has recorded 77 goal contributions in all competitions meaning he would continue to make this current potent attack, just as deadly.

Not only can he play as the ten and be the main creative force, but Palmer can also play out on the right. This level of versatility can allow for a fluid front four that can all interchange.

For example, if Bryan Mbeumo was to play in his current role up front, Matheus Cunha on the left, Amad on the right, and Palmer as the ten, then due to all of their flexibility, they can all fill in for each other making it unpredictable for the opposition.

The only problem involving this potential deal, aside from the huge price, would be his recent injury issues with his groin, with the player already missing 18 games in all competitions this season.
