Tottenham Hotspur want to thwart Real Madrid’s plans with Osasuna star Víctor Muñoz, by jumping in and signing him first.
That’s according to Fichajes. The website reports that Tottenham could derail Real Madrid’s plans for Muñoz by ‘snatching away’ the player.
Víctor Muñoz is a Real Madrid academy graduate but left this summer in a €5m deal to Osasuna. Since then, he’s become one of the biggest sensations of the season in La Liga.
The 22-year-old has been in excellent form, with four goals and four assists in all competitions to date. That’s attracted attention from around Europe, particularly in the Premier League.
Tottenham are one of those interested. In fact, they appear to be the club that have taken the lead in the race to sign him.

They’re aware of Víctor Muñoz’s potential and the €40m release clause in his current contract. Tottenham would, according to Fichajes, be willing to put that amount on the table to secure his signing as soon as possible. That would help them to avoid a bidding war.
It would also allow them to foil Real Madrid’s plans. The Spanish giants have a buy-back option worth €8m. The plan had been to exercise that option then sell Muñoz to the highest bidder. However, Tottenham’s interest and their willingness to pay the €40m clause directly could jeopardise that plan.
Real Madrid can thwart that by using the clause early, but they’d have to decide to do so. Tottenham’s apparent willingness to pay is forcing them to make a decision. At this point, it puts them ahead of Real Madrid in the race.
Now, as with all Fichajes reports, we’ll take it with a pinch of salt. Tottenham being happily willing to spend €40m on a youngster from La Liga certainly raises at least one eyebrow. For now, we’ll treat Víctor Muñoz as a name to keep an eye on.
