Manchester United have no plans to move for Rennes star Kader Meite, according to journalist Rich Fay.
The Red Devils have been linked with a potential £26 million move for the talented youngster before Monday’s transfer deadline.
But club sources insist United’s interest in Meite has been ‘exaggerated’ and that their name is being used to drum up interest from elsewhere in the player.
The 18-year-old has impressed with his progress since joining Rennes in 2022.
Despite his young age, Meite has made 32 senior appearances for the Ligue 1 club, scoring 14 goals in the process.
His performances in France have attracted attention from the Saudi Pro League, who look to be a likely destination for the teenager in the current window.
United have not added any new players to the squad since splashing over £200m on three forwards and a goalkeeper last summer.
They need reinforcements in midfield, with Casemiro leaving Old Trafford at the end of his contract in June.
Manuel Ugarte also face an uncertain future in Manchester, as the Uruguayan hasn’t made an impact since joining in 2024.
United have identified Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton or Elliot Anderson as their top midfield targets.
But the huge financial costs for a deal for any of the three means a transfer is unlikely this winter.
