Jonny Evans has taken young Manchester United centre-backs Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro for extra individual work at Carrington as he seeks to pass on his knowledge to the pair.

Evans is one of two former Premier League centre-backs on Michael Carrick's coaching staff, alongside Jonathan Woodgate, who also joined the club after working with Carrick at Middlesbrough.

Woodgate had a spell at Real Madrid as well as playing for Leeds and Newcastle, while Evans made 241 appearances across two spells at Old Trafford and only retired at the end of last season.

Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez have emerged as the first-choice centre-back pairing in Carrick's first two games in charge, with Netherlands international Matthijs de Ligt still sidelined by injury.

That has left 19-year-old Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro, 20, in reserve and in the wins against Manchester City and Arsenal, Heaven has played just one minute, and Yoro has remained an unused substitute.

But Heaven has revealed that Evans has been taking the young duo aside after training at Carrington to try and develop their games, while Woodgate is also passing on his own experiences during the regular sessions.

“Yeah, it's really good," Heaven told the club's Inside Carrington podcast. "Jonny especially, he's been helping me a lot. Me and Leny [Yoro], after some of the sessions, we go to do extras and just work on that, you know, the basics.

"And even between drills, during their sessions, they're always pulling me to the side and helping me on my positioning. I've enjoyed it so far. They're a big help.

"Obviously they've played in the game for over 20 years, you know, and when I know that obviously I'm going to listen to them because I just know I can learn from them."
